The Boat Basin on Upper Myakka Lake (about three miles from the main Park entrance) is the "attractions center" of the Park. The concession includes a gift shop, fast food service, bicycle and canoe rentals -- plus the departure points for the airboats and tram (which takes passengers into more-or-less remote parts of the Park from 16 December to 31 May).

Two of the world's largest airboats ply the lake. The Myakka Maiden (shown here) the larger of the two, is powered by an ancient Cadillac engine that is capable of propelling the boat fully loaded at speeds up to 8 miles per hour. At that speed, or slower, there is plenty of time to view wildlife and listen to the captain/guide.
