The Bird Walk, which extends into Upper Myakka Lake, has long been one of the principal features of Nyakka River State Park. And then it was destroyed in September 2001 by Tropical Storm Gabrielle. It is still possible to clamber out onto it, though, and it remains one of the best bird-watching spots in the Park. I was assured by Park personelle that there was "no question" but that the Bird Walk would be rebuilt. It was only a question of time...and money. Perhaps another Mr. Crowley will appear to help resolve that question?
