Visitor CenterJust past the ranger station at the main entrance to the Park is the Visitor Center. A nondescript building that could easily be missed did it not share a parking lot with the ranger station, the weathered structure takes on significance when the visitor reads the legend beside the entrance.
This was a horse barn in the 1930s, but today, in the modern park, it houses a small but delightful and informative exhibition that includes a theater where, in addition to displays in windows, a half-dozen or so different short films may be seen about the park and its history.
I recommend that everyone take time for the Visitor Center before venturing further, but, if not then, certainly before leaving the Park. The Visitor Center is the closest most people will ever get to a Florida panther, for instance.
